BudMaster Grow is a UK-made smart indoor growing controller range that works with any equipment you already own. No cloud, no subscription, no lock-in.
BudMaster Grow makes smart indoor growing controllers, built in Poole, Dorset. One hub — the Nexus — runs a single tent on its own and scales with Mini, Mid and Max channel routers. Unlike vendor-locked competitors, every BudMaster works with whatever fans, lights, and humidifiers you already own. No cloud dependency, no subscription, no data harvesting — everything runs on your local network, forever.
BudMaster Grow is a UK-based hardware startup building the smart indoor growing controller the market has been missing. Founded by a grower of thirty years who got tired of watching friends buy glorified timers, cloud-locked subscriptions, or £3,000 industrial PLCs — BudMaster is the controller that does the whole job honestly.
At its centre is the Nexus hub: a single-tent grower can run their whole room on its two onboard channels, with full VPD automation and industrial soil sensing. When the grow gets bigger, Mini, Mid and Max channel routers plug into the Nexus and daisy-chain — up to eight routers, as many as 66 channels across 16 rooms. Everything runs locally, needs no account, and works with any fan, light, or humidifier you already own.
Payment is accepted in pounds sterling via card or in Bitcoin/Lightning via self-sovereign BTCPay. Batch one is 100 units shared across the range, shipping from Dorset in late summer 2026.
Company background
Short (1 sentence)
BudMaster Grow is a UK hardware startup making smart indoor growing controllers, founded by a grower of thirty years.
Medium (1 paragraph)
BudMaster Grow was founded in Poole, Dorset by a grower of thirty years. After three decades watching the indoor controller market drift between cheap timers, subscription-locked apps, and industrial kit well out of hobby budgets, the founder built the controller he’d always wanted. BudMaster Grow’s first batch ships in early June 2026.
About the founder
The founder is an indoor grower of thirty years who built his first DIY controller in the late 1990s out of frustration with timer-plus-thermostat combinations that never quite worked. Three decades later — after watching the market split between cheap toys and industrial kit with no sensible middle — he founded BudMaster Grow, with design, manufacture and assembly all run from the company’s workshop in Poole, Dorset. He is the sole founder, engineer, and support contact; when you email hi@budmastergrow.com, you reach him directly.
The founder’s name and likeness are withheld by request; please refer to him as “the founder of BudMaster Grow” in print. Written interviews, technical Q&A, and pre-approved quotes available on request via hi@budmastergrow.com.

Talking points
Home Assistant is a first-class citizen: every sensor and channel shows up automatically in Home Assistant — no custom integration, no cloud bridge, no account. For the 600,000+ households already running HA, BudMaster drops in as naturally as any native HA device.
Why "no cloud" matters: Every other smart grow controller routes your sensor data through someone else’s server. If that company folds, your kit becomes a brick. BudMaster runs entirely on your local network — no account, no outage dependency, no data harvesting.
SELV 12V throughout, not switched mains: Competing consumer controllers switch mains directly, which is both electrically dangerous for hobbyists and expensive to certify. BudMaster runs the entire front panel at SELV 12V with relays isolated on the back — safer to handle, simpler to certify, and easier for a DIY owner to service.
Why one hub plus routers: A single-tent hobby grower doesn't need a multi-room industrial controller. A grow-room commercial operator doesn't want a two-channel toy. Most of the market sells one product and tells everyone to adapt — BudMaster starts everyone on the same Nexus hub, then lets them add Mini, Mid or Max channel routers to match the scale of the grow.
Why Bitcoin payments: Bitcoin/Lightning isn't a gimmick — it's the only payment rail with no chargeback risk, no card-network surveillance, and no custodial middleman. Perfect for a small maker shipping out of a UK workshop.
Why start with 100 units: Hardware startups die from over-committing on batch one. 100 units is small enough to fulfil by hand, large enough to validate demand honestly, and avoids the "we need £50k in pre-orders before we can ship" trap that plagues Kickstarter hardware.
Fact-checking claims — what BudMaster actually does
A short list so journalists don't have to guess, and so quotes stay accurate.
- "No cloud" — true. The firmware has no outbound API calls to vendor servers. Local network only.
- "No subscription" — true. No recurring fees for any feature, ever.
- "Works with any equipment" — within reason: any fan, any dimmable light, any smart-plug-compatible appliance, any standard industrial soil probe. Not: proprietary protocols that vendors keep closed (e.g. AC Infinity's controller-to-fan protocol).
- "Open REST API" — true. Documented endpoints for Home Assistant / Node-RED integration.
- "OTA firmware updates" — true, over the local network only, user-initiated.
- Cannabis-specific claims — BudMaster Grow does not market to or reference cannabis growing. The product works with any indoor-grown plant. Please don't make us imply otherwise in print.
