Most grow-tech apps are a subscription in a trench coat. Here’s what the BudMaster app deliberately does not do:

The questions people always ask.

Is there a subscription?

No. Never. The app is free with every controller and it stays free for the life of the hardware. That’s not a “free tier” — there is no paid tier above it.

What happens if my internet goes down?

Nothing changes. The controller runs autonomously either way — it doesn’t need the internet. The app connects to your controller over your local Wi-Fi, so as long as your router is up, you’re fine.

Can I use it from outside my home?

Yes — and the easy way is the BudMaster Mobile App. Add it to your Home Screen on iPhone or Android and you’ve got your dashboard, alerts and overrides in your pocket — encrypted, free with every controller, no subscription, no account.

If you’d rather skip our app entirely and tunnel direct to your home network, the technical path is a standard WireGuard VPN or Tailscale Funnel — both free, both around five minutes to set up. The setup guide walks through both. Either way, no BudMaster server is in the loop.

Do my sensors get sent to your cloud?

No, and they couldn’t if we wanted to. There is no BudMaster cloud. Readings live on the controller’s local storage and are fetched by the app on demand. We have no database, no dashboard, no way to read or sell your data.

Does it work with my existing Home Assistant?

Yes — natively. The controller exposes MQTT auto-discovery and an ESPHome-compatible interface, so every sensor and actuator shows up in Home Assistant without any custom integration.

What if BudMaster goes out of business?

Your controller keeps working. The app keeps working. The firmware is locally installed, the API is documented, and the protocol is open. A disappearing manufacturer is the usual kill switch for smart gear — not here. That’s the whole point of building it this way.
